MachineTrak - The MicroTex CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) - Bar Coding Support

Inventory Control Bar Code Support

MachineTrak provides support for bar-code label printing and bar-code scanning to record all inventory transactions.  (An inventory transaction occurs whenever the on-hand quantity of a part is changed because: the part was issued from inventory for maintenance; the part was received from a vendor and added to inventory; an adjustment was necessary to reconcile the recorded inventory with the results of a physical inventory.)  To keep prices as low as possible for our customers who do not require bar-coding support, this module is sold as an optional add-on to MachineTrak. See ordering for pricing information.

Flexibility. The support provided is very versatile. Most, if not all, bar-code scanners are capable of creating a computer file and saving it onto a computer disk. There are a variety of ways in which this can be accomplished. For example, some scanners store data in their own memory until they are attached to a computer by cable and the data is transferred to the computer. Others are capable of sending data to the computer via radio signal, as the data is acquired. It does not matter to MachineTrak how the data is provided, as long as it ends up on a computer disk that is accessible from wherever MachineTrak is installed.

Using bar-code support. To use, simply print bar-code labels from MachineTrak's database for each employee, asset and part. Affix the labels to parts bins, employee badges or pages in a notebook. When a part is issued for maintenance, the person removing the part from stock scans the label of the person to whom the part is being issued, scans the part label, keys in the quantity, and optionally, scans the label of the asset in which the part will be used.

In similar fashion, parts received from vendors may be entered into inventory, and adjustments to parts quantities as a result of physical inventories, can be quickly and accurately recorded.

Hardware considerations. MicroTex does not sell, service or support bar-code scanners, cables, docking stations, printers or labels, nor do we sell software to drive any of those items. We do, however, work with vendors who know precisely what hardware and ancillary software is required to work with MachineTrak and we can introduce you to one who can help you. In particular, the Bar Code Center has developed a Stock Room program that works seamlessly with MachineTrak.  The Bar Code Center's Stock Room package includes everything needed to take full advantage of MachineTrak's bar coding support. All the necessary scanning hardware, printers, cables and software drivers to instantly and easily implement bar-coding within MachineTrak's inventory control system are included, and can be customized for your specific needs.
